How much total tank mix should be used per acre FOR FOLIAR APPLICATIONS?
Before discussing how much product to use per acre, you must first decide how much total tank mix you should use per acre. In other words, when you add the items you will spray together with your water, how much total mix do you need to properly cover an acre. We want the spray to wet the leaves, but to have minimal liquid reach the ground. How much liquid does it take to do this?
Trees. Use between 50 gallons to 200 gallons of water per acre to properly coat the leaves. A fine spray is preferable. Small trees may require less.
Row crops, vegetables and berries. Use more than 10 gallons of water per acre to properly cover the leaves during the foliar application.
Sod, Pasture and Hay. Use more than 10 gallons of water per acre to properly cover grass during a foliar application.
SUGGESTED FOLIAR APPLICATION RATES
Fruit & Nut Trees. A standard application is ½ gallon of Ocean Trace™ in the tank mix of water. Apply 4 applications per season. If only one application will be made per season, use 1 gallon per acre in the tank mix of water. For young trees we suggest 1 qt. per acre in the tank mix of water.
Berries, Vegetables.
If only a single application will be made, ½ gal./acre is recommended.
If 2 applications will be made, 1 qt. to 3/8 gal./acre is recommended.
If more than 2 applications will be made, a rule of thumb is to divide a gallon by the number of applications.
Note: Blueberries and other chlorine sensitive crops, 1 pint to 1 qt. per application.
Row Crops.
1/10th to ½ gal./acre, depending on desired results, etc.
For higher dollar crops, consider two applications of ½ gal./acre.
For 3 or more applications per season, apply divide 1 gal. by the number of applications.
For GMO crops, 1/10th to 1/20th gal./acre is recommended. The goal is to get in enough minerals to help with plant health. In our experience so far, GMO crops tend not to be as responsive to Ocean Trace™ in a foliar application.
Sod, Pasture & Hay.
1/10th to ½ gal./acre. For hay, consider an application after green up, and after each cutting. For sod and heavily grazed pasture, consider 2 to 4 applications a year, depending on length of growing season, etc.
Timing of applications
When are other fertility applications (NPK, fish, seaweed, etc.) recommended for the crop? Begin there.
IN THE ROW, ON THE SEED
If you are set up to apply fertilizer in the row, on the seed, consider adding 1/10th gal. of Ocean Trace™ to this application. We highly recommend including 1 qt. to ½ gal. of AG-USA’s HA Plus as well. A rule of thumb is 5 to 10 gallons of total mix per acre.
Drip line applications
Apply from ½ to 4 gal. of Ocean Trace™ per year through drip lines. Dilute with a minimum of 20 parts of water to 1 part of Ocean Trace™. A much higher dilution rate is fine.
applying through an irrigation system
Flood irrigation systems. 1 to 4 gal./acre per year.
Sprinkler irrigation systems. Start with the foliar rate, but consider doubling this, since there will be substantial run off.
fall soil applications
Trees. Since many trees pick up nutrients in the fall, before the tree becomes inactive, for the next spring, a root zone application of 1 to 2 gal./acre is beneficial. Consider mixing with AG-USA’s HA Plus to chelate the ocean minerals.
All other crops. Because soil applications are not as efficient, you will need a lot more Ocean Trace™ for the same effect. A fall soil application of 1 to 2 gal. of AG-USA’s HA Plus is recommended, and 1 to 2 gal. of Ocean Trace™ may be added to this.
seed coatings
It doesn’t take much Ocean Trace™ to give a boost at germination time. Mix one part Ocean Trace™ with 20 parts water, and mix 1 gal. of this mixture into each bushel of seed. Seeds may also be soaked for a few hours, and then dried. While soaking or drying, do not cover, or seeds may germinate.
